School Policies
At Nant-y-Parc Primary School, we recognise the importance of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and how these rights are reflected in the way we care for and educate our pupils. While our policies do not currently list the articles individually, many of them are shaped by the principles of children’s rights.
Some of the most relevant rights for schools include:
-
Article 2 – All children have rights, and these must be respected without discrimination.
-
Article 3 – The best interests of the child must be a top priority in all decisions and actions.
-
Article 12 – Every child has the right to express their views and have them taken seriously.
-
Article 28 – Every child has the right to an education.
-
Article 29 – Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full.
-
Article 23 – Children with a disability have the right to special care and support.

These rights can be seen in the spirit of our policies. For example:
-
Our Admissions Policy reflects Article 2 by ensuring all children are welcomed fairly and equally.
-
Our Behaviour Policy reflects Articles 3, 12 and 29, by considering children’s best interests, listening to pupil voice, and encouraging respect and responsibility as part of their learning.
-
The Caerphilly County Borough Council ALN Policy reflects Article 23, by ensuring children with additional needs receive the support they require to succeed.

By being mindful of children’s rights, we are working towards a school environment where every pupil feels respected, valued and able to flourish. We invite you to take a look at our school policies to see how these principles are embedded in the way we work.
